Danijela Macura is a fine art photographer whose work explores the relationship between the inner world and the natural world through self-portraiture and nature photography.
With an academic background in language and literature from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Rijeka, she has also written poetry, which has long been an essential part of her creative life and has profoundly influenced her photographic expression.
After exploring various photography genres and subjects, she made a pivotal decision to turn her lens inward following major surgery due to a chronic illness, using self-portraiture as a way of confronting vulnerability, bodily transformation, and the process of acceptance. What began as a deeply personal exploration gradually evolved into a broader reflection on transience, femininity, imperfection, and the fragile nature of human existence.
Drawing on the symbolism of flowers and other elements of the natural world, her photographs explore the delicate boundaries between the body and nature, presence and absence, fragility and resilience.
Her work is rooted in a poetic sensibility, seeking beauty in imperfection and in the fleeting nature of all things.
