This series is a continuation of Bones of the Lost River, combining photographs from the original series with self-portraits created four years later.
The photographs from Bones of the Lost River were taken in August 2019 along the Zrmanja River, where summer droughts had exposed its rocky riverbed — its bones. The self-portraits were created in June 2023, at the same river, now flowing with water.
The work grew out of a question that has stayed with me since the creation of the original series: What if the water never returned? As water scarcity and climate change increasingly threaten rivers and the life they sustain, the contrast between these two moments takes on a deeper significance.
Bringing the photographs together also reveals unexpected visual connections. Rocks, water, and bodily forms echo one another, creating new, imagined landscapes in which the boundaries between the human body and nature begin to dissolve.
